Digging around, I saw the driver was the generic Windows one as expected, but the controller was listed as Intel Smart Sound - getting that information was difficult because the conflict was so bad that even trying to open the Recording Devices tab lagged and sometimes crashed. So the adapter was correctly installed, but for some reason, no signal was coming through. All of the settings within Rocksmith 2014 Remastered and with the cable were set as specified, but no signal in Control Panel Sound Settings, Yousician, Ableton, etc. I was also having Windows Sound Settings (access when you right click on the sound icon in the taskbar) crash whenever I had the cable plugged in.
This is a different situation than I had seen described elsewhere. I'll run through some additional steps to verify this was the mostly likely root cause, but I'm decently confident.Īfter going through all of the normal troubleshooting steps for crashing and the realtone cable not being detected, I ended up with a weird situation where the cable was detected and identified properly, but there was no signal coming through. I've also got an open case w/Support and let them know that disabling Intel Smart Sound resolved the issue. I'm posting here because I've not seen this mentioned anywhere else.
If you have those issues, you need to try the troubleshooting steps for those such as a USB 2.0 port or powered hub (or buying a new cable - my original one will not work on USB 3.x, but the one I just bought will). Note - This is different than the cable not being detected or being detected as 'hocksmit'. TL:DR - Win10, no signal but cable detected, check if you have Intel Smart Sound, try disabling.
